It was supposed to be a day off.
Cashel had planned it carefully—no missions, no briefings, no headlines. Just him, Leonidas, and Ari. A quiet lunch in the city, a walk through the botanical gardens, maybe ice cream if Ari behaved. She hadn’t left the base since her cocoon cracked open, and they wanted her to feel like a child again.
Leonidas drove, one hand on the wheel, the other resting on Cashel’s thigh. Ari sat in the back, humming softly, her fingers glowing faintly with residual energy. She was learning to control it—slowly, steadily.
They never saw the attack coming.
A black SUV slammed into their car at an intersection, sending them spinning. Another vehicle clipped the rear, flipping them into a concrete divider. Glass shattered. Metal screamed. The world went white.
Cashel woke to blood.
Leonidas was slumped over the wheel, unconscious, his chest barely rising. Ari lay crumpled in the backseat, her arm twisted unnaturally, her eyes fluttering.
“No,” Cashel whispered, crawling through the wreckage. “No, no, no…”
His powers surged—heat, gravity, perception—but none of it could help. He was losing them. The man he loved. The girl who had become their daughter.
And then something inside him broke.
Or bloomed.
A golden light erupted from his chest, wrapping around Leonidas and Ari. Their wounds began to close. Bones reset. Skin mended. Cashel sobbed as the energy poured out of him, raw and wild and divine.
Healing.
His fifth power.
When he saw their breathing stabilize, he collapsed.
Before Unit 7 could reach them, the Sovereign Veil arrived.
They took Cashel.
Leonidas woke to Ari screaming, her hands glowing with violet fire. She unleashed a blast that knocked the Veil operatives back, shielding Leonidas with a barrier of pure energy. It was her first field use—instinctive, fierce, protective.
But Cashel was gone.
Cashel’s escape came suddenly.
He stumbled into a neutral zone checkpoint, emaciated, unstable, his powers flickering uncontrollably. The Veil had kept him drugged, suppressing his abilities, trying to break him. But the healing power had fought back, burning through the sedation, guiding him home.
He was rushed to a secure hospital.
Leonidas and Ari arrived within hours.
The reunion was raw—tears, kisses, whispered apologies. Ari clung to him, sobbing. Leonidas held his hand like a lifeline.
Cashel’s family came too.
Liora hugged him tightly. “You came back.”
His father stood awkwardly, then embraced him. “You’re stronger than they’ll ever understand.”
Analysts broke down the footage of the crash and Cashel’s escape. His fifth power was officially classified as:
- Regenerative Transference: The ability to channel internal energy into others, repairing cellular damage, restoring vitality, and stabilizing trauma. It was rare, even among Multi-Awakeneds, and marked Cashel as a potential Class Omega—an Awakened with five or more active abilities.
Ari’s power was also formally defined:
- Reactive Energy Conversion: She could absorb emotional or physical trauma and convert it into protective force—barriers, blasts, and short-range teleportation. With training, she could become one of the most powerful defensive Awakened alive.
But Ari still carried guilt.
“I didn’t keep you safe,” she said.
Cashel kissed her forehead. “You kept Leo safe. You kept yourself safe. That saved me.”
Weeks later, Cashel and Leonidas stood before a global summit.
They spoke not as soldiers, but as partners. As parents.
Cashel stepped forward, voice steady but fierce.
“You say you fear us. You scrutinize our families. You debate our rights. But every time you do, you feed the very propaganda the Sovereign Veil thrives on. You push newly Awakened into their arms—not just because they’re listening, but because they’re welcoming.”
He paused, letting the silence settle.
“They offer belonging. You offer suspicion. They offer purpose. You offer containment. And when a child wakes up terrified, alone, and powerful—you think of how to control them. They think of how to embrace them.”
Leonidas joined him.
“We’re not asking for blind trust. We’re asking for humanity. For the right to love, to build, to raise children without being seen as threats. We are not weapons. We are people. And we will not be erased.”
The room was silent.
Then applause.
The tide was turning.
And as Cashel looked at Leonidas and Ari—his family—he knew they would face whatever came next.
Together.
