The plan for transparency worked well, but it didn’t stop the hit when Sierra’s next bomb drop hit. The good thing is that since this time, she hit the Council, and Kai and Caleb, with one or more Council members at a time, so even though there was some friction between the Council members, they stood firm and together when it came to Kai and his Guardian status. It was stressful and weighed heavily on both of their shoulders. Caleb is a natural when it comes to leading his pack, and they are welcoming when it comes to Kai. Some of them are still apprehensive, but they are growing on him, slowly approaching him for things the Alpha Consort should and has every right to handle. Caleb’s mom and sister were a big help; having my mate’s little sister as a friend was amazing. We hang out with just us or with my other friends, and it’s like we’ve all been friends forever. It helps that my friends were a part of this pack too. His mom was there helping navigate being Alpha Consort and all the things I should know, memorizing the names of the Alphas and Lunas in the area. The ones who aren’t mated yet, if they had families, what would they like to do? It was hard and it was tedious, but it showed the pack that I was doing the work.
That night in the rooms Kai shared with Caleb, he was finishing the dinner he was making. He and Caleb had been on rocky footing since the dinner where he was ambushed by Caleb’s ex-hookup. Kai felt bad about it; he knew it wasn’t Caleb’s fault, and it wasn’t really about the ex; it was more because of who it was. I know that Caleb wasn’t ever attracted to men before he met me in his bar all those nights ago. I can’t help but wonder. I know that the Moon Goddess doesn’t make mistakes. He just wishes that things were like it was when they were staying at Caleb’s house. He knows a lot of it is the nuance of taking over the pack and the headache that Sierra has been. Kai hopes that tonight they can get back what they had before everything went crazy. As he is thinking this, he hears the door to their room open.
Caleb steps in and can immediately smell that Kai has been cooking, and it smells so good. He is so happy the Alpha’s wing has a kitchen in the room for times like this, because honestly, he would rather spend some alone time with Kai, and sharing a meal is perfect. He walks in, and Kai is already setting the table. He walks up behind Kai and draws him near, kissing him where his mate bite is, growling just a little when he nips him. Kai tilts his head back and to the side, giving Caleb more access, “Mmm, Alpha mine if you don’t stop, the food will be cold before we get to it.” Kai moans, gripping the hair at the back of Caleb’s neck. Caleb squeezed him tighter. “My Omega, you say that like it’s a bad thing.” Kai turns around in Caleb’s arms, wrapping his arms around his neck, kissing Caleb’s neck and under his jaw. “It’s not a bad thing, but I thought you would want to eat your dinner while it is hot. Then again, we can always reheat it.” Kai says while he is slowly unbuttoning Caleb’s shirt. Caleb kisses him hard, loving the way Kai’s hands feel on his skin. “ Lead the way, mate, dinner can wait.”
