Leonidas stared at the message glowing on his comm tablet.

SARIAH: Dinner. Drinks. No politics. Just us. You know we’d be dangerous together—in all the best ways.

He exhaled slowly, the words lingering like smoke. Sariah had a way of slipping past defenses, her pheromone-based powers subtle but potent. She’d made her interest clear at the Chrysalis Project event, and now she was doubling down.

He didn’t respond.

Instead, he walked to the balcony of their shared apartment, where Cashel sat curled in a blanket, watching the city pulse below. The Sovereign Veil’s broadcast had shaken the world. Their message was clear: Multi-Awakened belonged to the Awakened, not to governments or institutions. They were to lead, not serve.

Leonidas sat beside Cashel, silent for a moment.

“She messaged me,” he said.

Cashel didn’t look away from the skyline. “Sariah?”

Leonidas nodded. “Dinner. Drinks. Temptation.”

Cashel’s jaw tightened. “And?”

“I told her I already have dangerous,” Leonidas said, brushing his fingers against Cashel’s. “And I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”

Cashel leaned into him, the tension easing. “Good.”

The next day, Cashel ran into Dante Virelli at a biotech summit. Dante was charming as ever, dressed in a tailored suit that shimmered with embedded tech. He pulled Cashel aside with a conspiratorial smile.

“I’ve been investing in genetic research,” Dante said. “Not just powers—but reproduction.”

Cashel raised an eyebrow. “Reproduction?”

Dante nodded. “Same sex Awakened couples can have biological children. The pathogen rewrites DNA so thoroughly, it allows for genetic fusion. All it takes is deciding who carries.”

Cashel’s breath caught. “That’s… possible?”

“Not just possible,” Dante said. “It’s happening. And with multi-Awakened, the potential is exponential. Powers can be passed down. Sometimes even enhanced.”

Cashel’s mind spun. The idea of a future—of a child with Leonidas—was overwhelming. Beautiful. Terrifying.

“What about mixed couples?” he asked. “One Awakened, one not?”

Dante shrugged. “It’s a genetic lottery. Some children inherit powers. Some don’t. Some carry the G-Variant without activation. But with multi-Awakened? The odds shift.”

Cashel left the summit with his heart full and his thoughts racing.

That night, Unit 7 was deployed.

The Sovereign Veil had taken control of a data vault in the Arctic Circle—one that housed genetic records of every known Awakened. Their goal: to erase the files and sever ties between Awakened and government control.

Cashel and Leonidas led the charge.

The battle was brutal. The Veil’s operatives were skilled, fanatical. One of them—Kara Myles—was a former friend of Cashel’s from his academy days. She’d Awakened after he left, and now she stood against him, her powers sharp and cold.

“You should be with us,” she hissed. “Not playing pet to the humans.”

“I’m with the people I choose,” Cashel said. “And I choose love. Not war.”

They fought. Cashel held back, refusing to kill. Leonidas covered him, absorbing shockwaves and redirecting them with precision. In the end, Kara fled, wounded but alive.

Cashel stood in the snow, shaking.

Leonidas wrapped him in his arms. “You did the right thing.”

“She was my friend,” Cashel whispered.

“She still might be,” Leonidas said. “But not today.”

Back at base, Unit 7 gathered around a fire. Rhea passed out drinks. Milo cracked jokes. Tamsin leaned against Cashel, her shadow phasing flickering in the firelight.

They were more than a team now.

They were family.

Cashel looked around; heart full.

He had Leonidas.

He had Unit 7.

He had a future.

And he would fight for it—with fire, gravity, and love.
